- Flat saddle or frets – Smooth it out or replace.
- Loose internal parts – Pickup wires, braces, wood splinters around drilled holes, etc.
🔔 Loud buzz in a specific area?
- Loose braces or cracked top/back – Needs luthier attention.
- Loose bridge or tailpiece – Get it checked immediately.
- Loose wires or parts inside – Secure with foam or zip ties.
- Loose pickguard, strap buttons, or accessories – Tighten everything down (but not too tight or can split)
- String windings worn out
- Loose frets
- Dead strings or material quality
What If It’s Not a Buzz… but Something Just Sounds Off?
Dull or Dead Notes?
- Worn-out strings – Especially wound ones. Time to swap.
- Low saddle or cheap material – Consider TUSQ or bone.
- Flat or worn frets – A fret job might be in order.
- Loose tuners or bridge contact – Check for tightness and firm seating.
- Deep notches in saddle – Reshape (fill in with a paste mixture of SA glue and baking soda) or replace.
- Low string break angle at nut/saddle – Improve with setup.
- Dead strings – Always a suspect.
- Use heavier gauge strings if buzz persists.
- Check relief (neck bow) before adjusting the saddle.
- Fluorocarbon strings? Watch for slippage - try three loops at the bridge on A and G.
- Record a video if you're still not sure - sometimes sound reveals more than sight.
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! - Spritz of cleaner on the body and wipe down, hydrate the fretboard- wipe off excess oil - does wonders!
